Together We Rise

The Role of Community in Post-Traumatic Growth

Our community is still reeling from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. However, many of us experienced something magical in the aftermath of Helene: temporary utopias of solidarity and mutual aid. This was only made possible by and through community members, like you and me, extending a hand to help their neighbor. It's almost like our true nature is of generosity and not greed...

Please join us for an engaging discussion to further explore the power of community in these unsettling times. You can expect a blend of academic research, experiental processing, creative art prompts, and group sharing in this event. We will explore questions like: What is post traumatic growth? What actually is resilience? How do we accept the reality of our times while believing in a better tomorrow?

Morgan Penberthy, MA is a current student in the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Pacific University. She currently provides therapeutic services in a community-based mental health clinic in Portland, Oregon, and conducts research on mindfulness-based interventions for people impacted by trauma. She loves spending time in nature, perfecting latte art, and investing in community.

Gillian Kerner, MSW, LCSW-A is a licensed clinical social worker who currently provides school-based therapy here in North Carolina. They are passionate about community radio, queer joy, enneagram, cats, and pursing all paths to collective liberation.
