As young people, many of us were personally transformed through encounters with incredible educators. As booksellers we work in parallel to formal learning spaces to spread ideas and facilitate lifelong learning. So, it's no surprise that we feel a great affinity for teachers, librarians, and educational spaces. If you are an educator, we'd love the opportunity to collaborate with you or your organization!
Our co-operative has been offering unique school book fair services since 2016. We specialize in providing an experience that is professional, custom, and local with a focus on equity. Participating schools receive a portion of every sale in cash or classroom inventory.
In 2020 we began offering virtual book fairs as a way to support learning at home and raise money for schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why Partner With Our Co-op?
While there are many companies that provide a bookfair-in-a-box, we've heard from teachers and parents that these highly templated services feel stale and often lack titles that reflect our unique local community.
We approach every book fair as a fresh collaboration and work with educators to ensure that the books we bring are appropriate to the partner school. Unlike national book fair companies, we feature books by authors who live in Western North Carolina. Most importantly, we prioritize titles that challenge popular narratives, feature authentic characters with diverse experiences and identities, and engage important real-world issues with bravery and nuance.
Equity isn't just a concern for our inventory selection, it's also a core characteristic of our approach to organizing school events. We believe that book fairs should be accessible to all students regardless of their economic circumstances, and to that end we work with schools to develop and implement strategies for inclusion.
