Skeletons in the Closet
Queer Horror Book Club
Queers and horror have always gone hand in manicured hand. We know what it means to be made into a monster, all while navigating the true life terrors of conversion therapy and gender reveal parties. This queer horror book club will explore queerness from the magic to the truly macabre. In November we'll dive deeper into the world of eco-horror with Tiffany Morris' pithy novella Green Fuse Burning. (Use promo code YIKES to save 10% at checkout.)
From Firestorm collective member and book club host Esme: "On the first page we learn that Mi'kmaq artist Rita Francis has vanished during her artist residency in a remote cabin in the wetlands, leaving behind only her most inspired work yet. Each chapter begins with a gallery's description of her vivid mixed medium creations depicting unsettling images of dark figures embedded in scenes of ecological collapse. Green Fuse Burning reflects on, and is itself an example of, the ways we document global horrors such as climate change and grieve personal and cultural loss. It's a rich text, I can't wait to dive in!"
Each meeting of this book club is structured to encourage deep engagement with the themes of the text, as well as facilitate connection among the participants. If you are looking to meet other queer people and/or horror lovers this is the book club for you!
