Read Aloud & Zine Making Workshop

Join local poet and children's book author JR Rhine along with elementary art school teacher April Ryan as they celebrate the one-year anniversary of Rhine's Jimmy Loves His Long Hair with a virtual read aloud and zine making workshop. Come prepared with your own paper, scissors, and coloring tools. Appropriate for children ages 5+!

About the Book

Jimmy has long hair like his dad. Sometimes, he gets made fun of for having long hair like a girl. One day, Jimmy meets a girl, Charlie, who has short hair like a guy. Through Charlie's assertiveness and the support his parents, Jimmy works to grow confident in his gender expression and take pride in his appearance.

JR Rhine is a musician, poet, and educator. He is the author of several chapbooks, along with a children’s book, Jimmy Loves His Long Hair. He writes solo music under the moniker Jimmy Dread. He lives in Asheville, North Carolina with his cat, Lugosi.

April Ryan is an elementary school art teacher, mixed media artist, and she's not like a regular mom- she's a cool mom. She was selected as 2021 Teacher of the Year for St. Mary's County Public Schools in Maryland, and uses her platform to advocate for the arts, inclusivity, and the importance of building positive relationships. She currently lives in Southern Maryland with her husband, stepdaughter, son, and their dog, cat, and three hermit crabs. Her favorite colors are magenta and iridescent.

The organizer of this event marked it kid-friendly. 😛
