Tapping the Reservoir of Normalcy to Treat Autism
Author and educational and behavioral therapist Robert J. Bernstein presents his original, intuitive approach to helping people with autism—many of whom have never spoken until he worked with them.
Robert Bernstein based Uniquely Normal on over three decades of experience in his New York practice treating children and adults on the autism spectrum, many of whom were nonverbal when they first came to his office. In every case, Bernstein’s first gift to his clients—and to their families—is that he connects with them and gets them to talk. Beyond his role as therapist, however, Bernstein’s greatest contribution of all may in fact be the book itself, which offers parents, teachers, and professionals an alternative to Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy, the most highly funded and practically mandated therapy for early intervention for autism.
Robert Bernstein is an educational consultant who has been treating people on the autism spectrum for more than 30 years now. He has helped many hundreds of people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) across all age groups, from 18 months to those well into their adult years, as they overcame their deficits to catch up to age-appropriate cognitive and behavioral norms. Bernstein earned a Masters degree in Special Education at Columbia University Teachers College. Learn more about Robert Bernstein at www.AutismSpeech.com.
