Christian Anarchist Roundtable
The Christian Anarchist Roundtable is an event designed to bring together those who identify as, or with the values of, Christian anarchists. Within the larger Christian community, anarchists, especially those who reject traditional church structures, are left with few spaces in which they can connect with others who share their views of how Jesus' teachings compel the creation of a free, loving, and egalitarian society. In some anarchist circles, Christians are viewed with suspicion or even hostility due to an oftentimes well-deserved reputation for statist support and the historical defense of varying forms of oppression. This event represents a first step toward providing a space specifically for Christian anarchists in Asheville. Should other spaces already exist, this event represents an effort to increase awareness of such spaces and help participants access them.
The event has three goals:
1. To bring disparate Christian anarchists living in Asheville together, face-to-face, in a physical space;
2. To allow Christian anarchists the opportunity to get to know one another and share personal reflections about their spiritual/political journeys and how these journeys coincide;
3. To gauge the interest of Asheville's Christian anarchists in creating a community/collective through which they may experience fellowship and support, reflect upon Jesus' teachings and their social/political implications, and organize direct action to express both their Christian and anarchist convictions. Alternatively, if participants are aware of existing efforts to fulfill this goal, this event seeks to highlight such efforts and point interested persons to them.
