Saro Lynch-Thomas & Sarah Morgan
Note: This event is being held at our OLD location, 48 Commerce Street in Downtown Asheville.
A free evening of Appalachian folk music. The concert will feature duets and solo pieces by two traditional musicians, ballad signer Saro Lynch-Thomas and dulcimer player Sarah Morgan.
Saro Lynch-Thomason is an illustrator, award-winning ballad singer and amateur folklorist. She has been studying Appalachian ballads and traditional singing since 2008, performing alongside respected singers including Sheila Kay Adams and Elizabeth Laprelle. In the spring of 2013 she was granted a Sound Archives Fellowship from Berea College to study and teach Eastern KY ballads. Saro has been involved with mountain-top removal activism since 2008.
The music of Sarah Morgan embodies her respect and joy of folk music and her creative approach to arranging. Backing traditional Appalachian melodies and haunting old time tunes with fresh harmonies and a progressive drive, she lends a new feel to seemingly "old" tunes, while accompanying pure and heartfelt vocals with the unpretentious sound of the Appalachian dulcimer. Folk, Americana, and Old-Time roots are brought to the forefront at live shows, where only Sarah and her dulcimer can be found behind the microphone, creating a subtle yet powerful sound that brings the relevant music of the past to today’s audience.
