Join Matt Wetsel, a Richmond-based eating disorder activist, who will share information about his recovery, health reform and the intersections of gender constructs and mental health.

Matt has been volunteering with the Eating Disorders Coalition, a grassroots lobby group, for the past eight years to improve access to care for eating disorders. Currently, eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental health disorder, in large part due to the stigma and misinformation surrounding them and the habitual denial of treatment from insurance companies. Matt focuses on the intersection of mental health and gender constructs. Due to eating disorders primarily affecting women, they are feminized to the detriment of the field.
