Jacks McNamara, co-founder of The Icarus Project and genderqueer artist, activist and healer has recently published Inbetweenland, a book of poetry and prose that describes in intimate grit and bloom the story of landscape, body, the rise and fall of self in the arms of others and the cradle of broken hills. Jacks is offering the Asheville community a reading and discussion on the poetics of being queer and being self.

Part love song, part howl, part incantation, Inbetweenland is the first book-length collection of Jacks McNamara’s poems, prose, and hybrid experiments in the neon vernacular of being alive. Mapping out radical trajectories through loss, violence, and queer desire, McNamara creates a luminous archive of survival and resilience in a self-destructing world. A visual artist as well as a writer, the author relies heavily on the unexpected image to chronicle the impossible journey through body, family, and history–towards home.
