By Worth Rises and Bianca Tylek

Loved by our collective!

This book is packed with factual explanations of how the prison industry has so many faucets to squeeze money out of incarcerated people (and everybody's taxes) by exploiting their lives. It's kind of insane that this book, which reads like a market research report (except for a short story in each chapter of someone who was deeply affected by this profit-making) and isn't about theories of justice, is enough to strongly convince us that nothing about incarceration is for justice or repair—and that it's the corporates who are lobbying to seek more profit from increased incarceration. A must-read to understand the larger system of oppression and capitalism in the US (together with theories of justices too!)
