Daniel, 2017
Summer Camp Stories (and stuff like that)
How does a closeted gay teenager best spend the summer after his sophomore year of high school?
He could probably get a job, waste the days around town, sit at home on Tumblr, or something like that. But the question said “best,” not "most generic." And the best way to spend the summer is to fly out to California for an LGBTQ summer camp. Or at least that’s the answer for Daniel Utada.
Daniel gets off the bus at camp with a mixture of anxiety and excitement (but mostly anxiety). A whole summer of new friends, activities, self-discovery, and cute boys awaits. But first he has to stand up in front of a bunch of people he’s never met and say those awkward and exposing words, “I’m gay.”
