It Really Does Start Earlier Every Year

It Really Does Start Earlier Every Year

October 21st, 2020

We know that it is waaay too soon to begin talking about the holidays but we want friends to know that our co-op is expecting some unique challenges this year. No, we're not talking about the possibility that we'll all spend New Years Eve trying to distinguish between celebratory fireworks and the small arms fire of local militias who refuse to accept the election results. We're talking about something a lot more mundane: book industry logistics.

It's an open secret that our co-op, and many other retail businesses, lose money for eleven months out of the year and then make it up in December (horrifying, we know). But this year with so much uncertainty around everything from the post office to publishers, we need folks who are considering gifting books to plan ahead and submit orders as early as possible—ideally in October or early November. Because of the ongoing closure of our store, holiday sales will be more important to us than ever, yet there are real possibilities that popular titles won't arrive on time.
