The Firestorm Collective is seeking one or more patrons to provide financial support for a new event series designed to bring radical and progressive voices to Western North Carolina. While mainstream publishers often cover the costs associated with their authors' tours, more critical voices do not have access to such resources. The result is that marginal voices remain marginal, especially in the South where the distance between urban areas is significant, making travel costs prohibitive for authors.
You can help to change that!
With community support, our collective hopes to bring national and international content to Asheville. We've already selected the first two opportunities! The first is an event with Maya Schenwar, Editor-in-Chief of Truthout and author of Locked Down, Locked Out: Why Prison Doesn't Work and How We Can Do Better. The second will feature a multinational panel of activists participating in the To Change Everything Tour. If you would be interested in helping to underwrite the modest travel and accomodation expenses for these events -- or future events in our series -- please contact us at bookstore@firestorm.coop!
