Mal Blum & Zoe Boekbinder
Once upon a time, in a magical place known as Texas, Zoe Boekbinder and Mal Blum hatched a plan to join forces and go on an east coast/west coast tour together.
Mal Blum is a 23 year old songwriter and performer. She started making music as a tenderhearted teenager from New York with a lot of hutzpah and an ear for songwriting. Now she spends her time writing songs, traveling the country playing songs, and writing songs about traveling the country playing songs. She has opened for many national artists including (one-offs) Amanda Palmer, Bitch, Kaia Wilson, Hammell On Trial, and Kimya Dawson as well as supporting indie rocker Melissa Ferrick on her fall 2009, and winter/spring 2010 tours. Her music has been featured in the top 5 count of LOGO's The Click List (voted a voted a top ten video of 2009!), in numerous music blogs and publications and was once named Kill Rock Stars' "Demo of The Week."
Zoe is a speakeasy lounge singer performing at Fraggle Rock. She is “geek-glam”, music for people who wear sequins to the library. In 2005, Zoe formed a band called Vermillion Lies with her sister, Kim Boekbinder. This twisted folk cabaret duo traveled the world charming audiences with their comedic songs. They headlined venues like The Great American Music Hall (SF) and Circo de Braga (Portugal) and played with bands like The Dresden Dolls and The Ditty Bops. Since 2007 she has been touring and recording solo. Zoe’s 2009 album Artichoke Perfume is an intoxicating blend of old timey and jazz inflected arrangements and her quirky/surreal songs.
