An Honest and Vulnerable Look at Resistance Inside Prisons

In A Clean Hell, Eric King presents a clear picture of survival under the most restrictive levels of state repression.

This in-store event with author and former political prisoner Eric King is being organized in collaboration with the Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair (September 18-20). Presenting material from his recent book A Clean Hell: Anarchy and Abolition in America’s Most Notorious Dungeon, Eric will discuss on the impact of resistance behind bars: what it looks like, what consequences prisoners face, and the long-term effect on prisoners and their families.

Eric King is an anarchist who was imprisoned in 2014 for acts of solidarity with the Ferguson, Missouri, uprising. While in federal custody Eric was indicted for a self-defense incident at FCI-Florence. Eric took it to trial and is one of the few people to ever win at Federal Trial. After his victory Eric was sent to the Federal Supermax, ADX, an experience documented in his book A Clean Hell. During his time in prison Eric coedited the political prisoner anthology Rattling the Cages: Oral Histories of North American Political Prisoners (AK Press, 2023). Eric survived years of documented physical and psychological torture and made it out of prison with heart and soul intact. Eric is an activist, antifascist, and loving father and husband. He lives in Denver, CO.

The Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair is an annual celebration of anarchist ideas and literature, offering three days of workshops and tabling with music performances at night. Learn more at https://acabookfair.carrd.co/
