Who do we want to be?

A screening of acclaimed short film The Spiritual Advisor, following the lead up to Emmanuel LittleJohn’s 2024 Oklahoma execution and Rev. Jeff Hood’s determination to stop it.

As Oklahoma prepares to execute Emmanuel Littlejohn, spiritual advisor Jeff Hood arrives with two missions: to try to stop the execution, and to guide him through it if he can’t. Over five days, Hood works with Littlejohn and his family while petitioning the state to halt the execution. In the shadow of death, faith, care, and resistance take on urgent new meaning.

This 24 minute film will be followed by a talk-back with director Joel Fendelman and Rev. Hood.

Joel Fendelman is an award-winning filmmaker dedicated to telling stories that reveal the underlying connections between us all. His most recent short film, The Spiritual Advisor, premiered at DOC NYC 2025 and is being distributed by Rolling Stone Films.

Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood is a Catholic Priest (Old Catholic) nationally recognized as both an activist and theologian, especially in his work with persons across the nation facing execution. Dr. Hood's primary interest has always been the power of spirituality to bring about liberation. He presently resides in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
