Sunday, Feb 15th, 11:00am – 12:30pm ET
Sacred Anarchy Book Club
What roles do magic, animism, and spirituality play in our movements for liberation? What roles have they played historically? Why are some ideas hidden, suppressed by the State? How do we harness these ideas for both personal transformation & collective liberation?
Participants in this community-led group will discuss these questions and more! This is a space for deepening both political and spiritual practices. At the February gathering, participants will discuss the second half of Radical Antiquity, which takes us on a journey in search of anarchy, statelessness, and social experimentation in the Graeco-Roman world. Sweeping across the Mediterranean from the time of the first Olympic Games until the emergence of Islam, author Christopher B. Zeichmann tells the stories of escaped slaves, pirates, and religious sects—all of whom sought a more egalitarian way of life. This history from below brings the experiences of common and marginal people out of obscurity and radically expands our understanding of social and political life in the classical world.
