Anarchy and Abolition
A Conversation with Eric King
In A Clean Hell, author Eric King presents a clear picture of survival under the most restrictive levels of state repression.
At this virtual launch event for A Clean Hell: Anarchy and Abolition in America’s Most Notorious Dungeon, Eric will be joined by author and educator Josh Fernandez. They'll talk about life inside the ADX supermax in Colorado, healing from the trauma of a decade behind bars, and struggling for a world beyond the carceral state and the sanitized violence it tries to hide.
Eric King is an anarchist who was imprisoned in 2014 for acts of solidarity with the Ferguson, Missouri, uprising. While in federal custody Eric was indicted for a self-defense incident at FCI-Florence. Eric took it to trial and is one of the few people to ever win at Federal Trial. After his victory Eric was sent to the Federal Supermax, ADX, an experience documented in his book A Clean Hell. During his time in prison Eric coedited the political prisoner anthology Rattling the Cages: Oral Histories of North American Political Prisoners (AK Press, 2023). Eric survived years of documented physical and psychological torture and made it out of prison with heart and soul intact. Eric is an activist, antifascist, and loving father and husband. He lives in Denver, CO.
Josh Fernandez is an antiracist organizer, a father, a runner, a fighter, an English professor, and a writer whose stories have appeared in Spin, the Sacramento Bee, the Hard Times, and several alternative news weeklies.
