Theory of Water

A Disaster Reading Group

Every first and third Monday from July 2025 until September 2025

This post-Helene reading group is entering its fourth cycle with a return to the elemental force that brought us together: water. We'll be reading Theory of Water: Nishnaabe Maps to the Times Ahead by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, a resonant exploration of an intricate, multi-layered relationship with the most abundant element on our planet—one that is shaping our present even as it demands a radical rethinking of how we might achieve a just future. This series is co-facilitated by Lauren Miller.

Use promo code BEHOLDEN to save 10% on the book at checkout. Firestorm will make copies of the book available at no cost for participants who cannot afford to buy one.

Water is a matrix of bonds and attachments amongst living things of all kinds, a cascade of living beings across time and space, on a cosmic scale, extending into ancient times and into the future. Water is a set of practices that socially, intellectually, emotionally, spiritually and physically reproduce the planet.
