Feminists Against Liberation
A Conversation with Sophie Lewis
Author Sophie Lewis offers an unflinching tour of "enemy feminisms," from 19th century imperial feminists and police officers to 20th century KKK feminists and pornophobes to today's anti-abortion and TERF feminists. Lewis's new book, Enemy Feminisms: Terfs, Policewomen, and Girlbosses Against Liberation, is a provocative compendium of the feminisms we love to dismiss, making the case for the bold, liberatory feminist politics we'll need to stand against fascism, nationalism, femmephobia, and cisness.
Sophie Lewis is a queer feminist troublemaker and self-described "recovering academic" making ends meet as a freelance writer in Philadelphia, teaching courses online for the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. Her first two books were Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family, and Abolish the Family: A Manifesto for Care and Liberation. Sophie's essays appear pretty much everywhere, and, following Enemy Feminisms, she will be working on a book entitled The Liberation of Children, and an essay collection called Femmephilia.
