Gender Reveal Party
A Queer Craft Circle
This craft circle will explore themes related gender and sexuality through simple handicrafts, giving each other permission to experiment, go out on a limb, and get messy! Do you want to try out a new name or pronouns? A daring new look you’re nervous to debut? You’ve come to the right place. All are welcome, not only those who identify as queer. Bring your questioning, your certainties, and most importantly, your own pair of scissors! No experience necessary.
In November we will be queering a nostalgic fall craft: the corn husk doll. After lovingly assembling our corn husk model, the fun will really begin: outfits! Design a look you would love to wear, or maybe the polar opposite. While we work we’ll reflect on the limits and liberatory allure of fabric in helping us project who we are.
Group facilitator Esme is a professional anarchist and an amateur crafter. They love creating intimate containers for community members to connect at Firestorm. Drawing from their experience participating in art therapy, the process of creating — rather than the final product — will be the emphasis of the crafts she chooses.
The organizer of this event marked it kid-friendly. 😛
