Antisemitism is on the rise today. From synagogue shootings by white nationalists, to right-wing politicians and media figures pushing conspiracy theories, it’s clear that exclusionary nationalist movements are growing. By spreading division and fear, they put Jews, along with other marginalized groups and multiracial democracy itself, at risk.

At this virtual event, authors Ben Lorber and Shane Burley share their new book Safety Through Solidarity: A Radical Guide to Fighting Antisemitism. In conversation with Jewish anarchist organizer Cindy Barukh Milstein, they'll explore how antisemitism works and how we can build true safety through solidarity, for Jews and all people. Addressing the highly polarized climate around the war in Gaza, they'll tackle difficult questions, including: how can we stand in solidarity with Palestinians seeking justice, while also avoiding antisemitism—and resisting those who seek to conflate the two? and how do we forge the coalitions needed to overcome the politics of division and fear?

Ben Lorber is senior research analyst at Political Research Associates, a social movement think tank, where he studies and publishes on antisemitism and white nationalism. He previously worked as national campus organizer with Jewish Voice for Peace, supporting justice-driven young Jewish communities across the country, and has written extensively on antisemitism, Israel/Palestine and Jewish identity.

Shane Burley has contributed to places such as NBC News, Jewish Currents, Al Jazeera, The Baffler, The Daily Beast, Haaretz, In These Times, Yes! Magazine, Tikkun, and The Oregon Historical Quarter. Their previous books on the far-right and social movements include No Pasaran: Antifascist Dispatches from a World in Crisis and Why We Fight: Essays on Fascism, Resistance, and Surviving the Apocalypse.

Cindy Barukh Milstein is a diasporic queer Jewish anarchist and longtime organizer. They've been writing on anarchism for over two decades, and are the author of Anarchism and Its Aspirations and Try Anarchism for Life: The Beauty of Our Circle. They edited the anthologies Constellations of Care: Anarcha-Feminism in Practice and Deciding for Ourselves: The Promise of Direct Democracy, among others.
