Two veterans of the punk scene descend upon Asheville with words and war stories to share!
Barb Morrison celebrates the release of their new book, Bottoming for God, a story about gender euphoria, sobriety, old skool NYC, true love, past lives and coming home. Shawna Kenney celebrates the third printing of her memoir, I Was a Teenage Dominatrix. After reading from their work, they'll discuss the pleasures and perils of memoir, followed by a Q&A and signing.
About the Authors
Barb Morrison is a renowned trans nonbinary recording artist, Top 5 Billboard dance chart songwriter, and Platinum record producer, best known as producer for numerous artists such as Blondie, Rufus Wainwright, Franz Ferdinand, LP, Asia Kate Dillon and as a film score composer. Bottoming for God is their first book.
Shawna Kenney is the author of the award-winning memoir I Was a Teenage Dominatrix (Punk Hostage Press), editor of the anthology Book Lovers: Sexy Stories from Under the Covers (Seal Press), co-author of Imposters (Mark Batty Publisher), and co-author of the oral history Live at the Safari Club: A History of HarDCore Punk in the Nation’s Capital 1988-1998 (Rare Bird Books). Kenney is a Contributing Editor with Narratively and her nonfiction work has appeared in The New York Times, Playboy, Creative Nonfiction, Vice, The Rumpus, Bust, Salon and more. She lives in Wilmington, NC, teaches at UCLA Extension and runs Hamlet's Hideaway, a writing retreat in Denmark.
