Alan Wieder's recently published book, Studs Terkel: Politics, Culture, But Mostly Conversation is a collage of Studs' life. Wieder describes events that are largely unknown even to those to whom Studs was closest. The book describes his lifelong commitment to civil rights, and most importantly, his belief that democracy is impossible without conversation.

Alan Wieder is an oral historian who lives in Portland, Oregon. In 2013, he published his third book on South Africa - Ruth First and Joe Slovo in the War Against Apartheid with Monthly Review Books.
